Adult nursing involves taking care of both old and young adults who experience chronic and acute illnesses and diseases. They provide caring, counseling, teaching and assistance to improve the health condition of patients and improve the quality of their lives, especially when they are in a difficult situation.
Adult nurses work in the forefront a multidisciplinary health care team consisting of doctors, occupational therapists, radiologists, medical technicians, pharmacists, and many other medical professionals. It goes without saying that adult nursing requires the closest contact with a patient and his or her relatives. Nurses have to be observant of the patient’ condition in order to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate the appropriate procedures in taking care of a specific patient and be able to record their progress. Every patient, after all, has varying needs. Adult nursing also involves presence of mind and flexibility in juggling the diverse needs of the patients.
Most of the time, adult nurses work in hospitals though the fast changing medical profession beckons the need for nurses directly in the community where more healthcare professionals are needed. Adult nursing especially in the community requires good interpersonal communication skills. Patients are often times pressured and stressed out with their conditions. It is the job of an adult nurse to ease out such emotional burden experienced by these individuals who are suffering from adverse physical conditions.
In the long run, adult nursing becomes a very satisfying profession when you get to realize the contribution you are making towards the progress of the patient’s heath condition and the improvement of the quality of his or her life.
